Grid reliability and the commercial case for storage

Storage used to be discussed as insurance against outages. Today it is doing more: shifting solar generation into evening peaks, smoothing industrial loads and reducing reliance on diesel gensets.

The economics depend on three variables — tariff structure, outage frequency and the depth of daily cycling. Sites with predictable daytime generation and heavy evening consumption tend to see the strongest returns.

Sizing matters more than brand. An oversized system that rarely cycles wastes capital; an undersized one degrades quickly. We model consumption profiles before recommending capacity.
